Tipton Structural Fabrication, Inc is a fabrication facility of structural steel and miscellaneous metals which include beams and columns, metal stairs, railings, and ladders for the construction industry. Some of our projects include: U of I Kinnick Stadium North Stands in Iowa City, PCI Medical Pavilion II in Cedar Rapids and Tyson’s Material Handling Expansion in Waterloo.

We have immediate openings for Full Time and/or Part Time Painter at our Tipton location!

Painter Duties:

• Ensure all painting equipment is in good repair on a daily basis
• Set up paint gun at the beginning of each shift
• Check with plant manager for priority paint jobs
• Verify blueprints for painting specifications
• Check material stamps to insure proper painting process
• Communicate with welders on location of material to be painted
• Clean and prep material for priming
• Paint all materials per blueprints and supervisory instructions
• Check paint thickness to insure meeting customer requirements
•  Place painted material in proper location for shipment ensuring material is stacked properly
•  Inventory paint supplies weekly and determine inventory of solvents and specialty paint     supplies
•  Tear down paint gun at end of each shift and clean properly
•  Clean and sweep paint room twice weekly
•  Work overtime as requested
•  Demonstrate a commitment to process and quality improvement
•  Demonstrate commitment to teamwork
•  Uphold, support and promote all company policies, procedures, and vision
•  Stay current with changes in industry and position

Painter Requirements:

• Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent and 1 year painting experience.
Language Skills:

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to read and interpret challenging blueprints.

Mathematical Skills:

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
• Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.

Physical Demands:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and carry short distances less than 75% of work time.
• Stand and/or walk over 75% of work time.
• Use hands and fingers, handle, grasp, hold or feel over 75% of work time.
• Stoop, bend and/or crouch, over 50% of work time.
• Kneel or crawl less than 25% of work time.
• Talk or hear over 75% of work time.
• Requires considerable standing and continuously handling material

Vision Requirements:

• Close vision – clear vison at 20 inches or less
• Distance vision – clear vision at 20 feet or more
• Color vision – ability to identify and distinguish colors

Noise Level:  Loud to Very Load: Welding and fabrication noise, trucks, forklifts.
